Susana Gramilho is a PhD candidate in Atlantic Islands: History, Heritage, and the Institutional Legal Framework of island territories. She is enrolled in a PhD programme at Universidade da Madeira, conducting research on the historical and legal dimensions of Macaronesian identity and cooperation. She holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education and completed coursework in an MBA programme, strengthening her background in management and strategic planning.
Is the Honorary Consul of Cabo Verde in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and serves as President of the Associação de Promoção da Macaronésia da Madeira — APMM, where she develops initiatives in the field of cultural diplomacy, educational, social, economic, turistic regional cooperation across the Macaronesian archipelagos: Madeira, Azores, the Canary Islands and Cape Verde.
She is the founder and organizer of the “Raízes & Rítmos” cultural festival, a multidisciplinary cultural festival that promotes Cape Verdean culture through art, music, gastronomy, literature and educational activities, with editions held in Madeira and the Azores and expansion planned to the Canary Islands and finally Cape Verde. She is also the author of the children’s book A Macaronésia Trocada por Miúdos, an educational project aimed at fostering awareness of Macaronesian identity among younger generations.
She has combined academic research with institutional and cultural action, contributing to the strengthening of regional cooperation, cultural visibility, and the international positioning of Macaronesian. She collaborates with institutional and cultural stakeholders across the Macaronesian region, ensuring that her research has practical impact and societal relevance.
